Finches are seed eating song birds and are found throughout the world, mainly in the northern hemisphere. They are known for their intelligence and often melodious calls. Some species of finch, such as the Zebra Finch, Gouldian Finch and Java Sparrow are kept as pets. Charles Darwin's studies of variations in finches in the Galapagos Islands lead him to devise the theories of evolution and natural selection. In the 19th century, many fine illustrations of finches were made due to the interest in Darwin's work and the popularity of finches as cage birds. Our fine art prints of finches are based on vintage illustrations from the period 1600 to 1920. We make them with superb pigmented inks and heavyweight 300gsm German fine art paper made from 100% cotton and spring water.
