Roman Temple of Seven Suns. Septizonium Vetus Ad Thermas Antonianas
Titled 'Septizonium Vetus Ad Thermas Antonianas'. The Septizodium was built in 203 AD by Emperor Septimius Severus. The name means temple of seven suns. It was named for the seven planetary deities (Saturn, Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus). The image shows the temple with the entrance to the baths of Antonianas in the background.
Based on a classical Roman engraving by Pietro Santi Bartoli from the 1690s.
