Alcide Charles Orbigny was a French naturalist well known for some of the best natural history works ever produced. He was widely travelled and after a trip to South America returned with thousands of specimens. They were meticulously drawn and engraved by some of the best wildlife artists of the time such as Blanchard, Travies, Oudart and Pretre.
