Prehistoric Rhinoceros (Das Einhorn Elasmotherium)
A prehistoric Rhinoceros with one huge horn. The German name for the animal was "Das Einhorn Elasmotherium". It was a huge Eurasian rhinoceros native to the steppes, south of the range of the woolly rhinoceros of Ice Age Europe. Elasmotherium looked a bit like a horse, but it had a large single horn. It became extinct about the same time as the rest of the glacial age megafauna. Some believe is that the mythical unicorn is based on the Elasmotherium.
Based on an antique print from the early 1900s by Heinrich Harder, which we have carefully restored and enhanced.
