George Shaw (1751-1813) was an English botanist and zoologist. He was a medical practitioner, lecturer in botany at Oxford University, keeper of the natural history department at the British Museum, co-founder of the Linnean Society and fellow of the Royal Society.
Shaw is known for his excellent engravings of animals. He was the first to describe the platypus scientifically in The Naturalist’s Miscellany in 1799.
