Heinrich Harder was one of the best illustrators of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals.
He was a German artist and naturalist, also well known for painting murals of extinct creatures for Berlin Zoo and for making a life sized Iguanodon sculpture for the main entrance. Harder eventually became an art professor at Berlin University.
The Reichardt Coca Company commissioned him in the early 1900s to illustrate large collecting cards about dinosaurs and prehistoric animals , and these remain some of the best depictions of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals. The collecting cards were issued in a hard cover titled "Tiere der Urwelt" which means "animals of the prehistoric world."
Harder obviously had a superb imagination and was able to visualise the animals in the scenery they might have inhabited, based on the scant fossil records of the time. Remarkably, his illustrations are still considered reference material.
Our fine art prints are inspired by antique illustrations. We make them with superb pigmented inks and heavyweight German fine art paper made from 100% cotton and spring water.
