Hummingbirds (Trochilidae) are among the smallest of birds, They hover by flapping their wings up to 80 times per second making the humming sound that gives them their name. They are also the only birds able to fly backwards. Hummingbirds drink nectar. They are only found in the Americas.
Their beautiful colours and ability to hover has fascinated cultures, artists and scientists throughout history. Some of the finest illustrations of animals ever made are of hummingbirds. Our hummingbird art is inspired by vintage illustrations from the period 1600 to 1920. We make them with superb pigmented inks and heavyweight 300gsm German fine art paper made from 100% cotton and spring water.
