Laocoon and Sea Serpents
Fine art print.
Features statue of Trojan priest Laocoon and sea serpents. Laocoön was a Trojan priest of Poseidon (or Neptune), whose rules he defied. He was subsequently subject to divine execution by two serpents sent to Troy across the sea from the island of Tenedos, where the Greeks had camped. Laocoön warned his fellow Trojans against the wooden horse presented to the city by the Greeks and is the source of the saying "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts".
Based on an engraving from 1689 of statues at Versailles Palace by Simon Thomassin, which we have carefully restored and enhanced.
