Avocado Fruit and Flowers

Vintage botanical art from Le Jardin Fleuriste by Charles Lemaire showing Avocado (Persea gratissima) fruit, flowers and leaves. The avocado tree also has a long history of cultivation in Central and South America. The oldest evidence of avocado use was found in a cave located in Coxcatlán, Puebla, Mexico, that dates to around 10,000 BC. It is now grown around the world in warmer climates.

Charles Lemaire was a prominent botanist and was involved with many of the most important botanical works.
This is a fine art print of a lithograph from Jardin Fleuriste. Le Jardin Fleuriste was published from 1851 to 1854, in an era of travel and exploration. Plants from around the world were being collected and bought back to Europe and eagerly studied by botanists and horticulturists.
