Titled Gentlemen at the Opera Ball in Paris 1835 In 1715, the regent of France instituted dancing at the Opera de Paris, especially around the time of Carnival. These balls were public and promoted a democratic atmosphere.
Based on a hand coloured engraving from the 1890s by Francois Courboin, which we have carefully restored and enhanced.
