Pietro Santi Bartoli was one of the greatest engravers in Rome during the late 1600s. He specialized in illustrating the magnificent surviving monuments and buildings of ancient Rome. His work 'Romanae Magnitudinis Monumenta' featured elegant gardens, amphitheatres, palaces, monuments, buildings and people in ancient Rome. Bartoli (1635-1700) studied painting under Poussin until he devoted himself to engraving, becoming one of the most renowned engravers of the antiquities of Rome.
