Pietro Santi Bartoli (1635-1700) was an Italian engraver, draughtsman and painter.
He studied painting under Poussin. Eventually he devoted himself to engraving. He engraved many Roman monuments.
Bartoli adored Rome's ancient buildings, monuments and ruins. He explored, climbed and sketched the massive, ancient structures. His then made engravings from his sketches.
In the 1690s he published these engravings in "Admiranda Romanorum Antiquitatum" and "Romanae Magnitudinis Monumenta".
This established his fame as one of the best engravers of the baroque era.
