Heinrich Rudolf Schinz (1777-1861) was a Swiss physician and naturalist. In 1833, he became a professor of natural history at the University of Zurich and curator of the natural history society of Zurich.
Schinz was a renowned zoologist who authored many significant works. His illustrations of fish, birds, reptiles, and mammals were lithographed by Karl Joseph Brodtmann and are considered to be among the finest animal illustrations ever created.
