Vintage botanical art by Thomas Meehan.
Features American Scarlet Hibiscus (Hibiscus coccineus). A native North American plant, the hibiscus grows naturally in the swamps, rivers, and marshes of the southeastern United States.
Thomas Meehan was a noted British-born nurseryman, botanist and author. He worked as a Kew gardener in 1846–1848, and thereafter he moved to Germantown in Philadelphia.
This is a fine art print of a lithograph by Meehan made in the late 1880s.
