Trees have always been important to humans, providing shelter, food, building materials and a source of fuel for fire. Trees featured in art in the Lascaux caves in France, dating from over 17300 years ago. Trees symbolise long life, strength and reliability.
In the great era of exploration and discovery from 1600-1900, trees were sought after for timber to repair ships and for fuel; and to be studied to see if they had useful properties that would provide commercial opportunities such as wood for furniture or fruit for cultivation. Artists made many fine illustrations of trees in this period. Our tree art is based on vintage tree art from the period 1600 to 1900.
We make them with superb pigmented inks and heavyweight 300gsm German fine art paper made from 100% cotton and spring water.
