Walter Buller (1838-1906) was a lawyer and naturalist from New Zealand. He is best known for his book “A History of the Birds of New Zealand”, first published in 1873 then expanded in 1888. It is a classic in the fields of ornithology and New Zealand wildlife and includes descriptions of several birds that are now extinct. Its illustrations were by John Gerrard Keulemanns, one of the greatest wildlife illustrators.
